On last Thursday evening the CasualClub was gathered about a cornertable in Sherry's. The great roomwas beautiful, the music brilliant,the setting and table appointmentsmagnificent, and the dinner all that might beasked. There came but one thing to grievethe tempers of our members—the service wasslip-shod, inattentive, vile. One wondersthat so splendid an arrangement should beleft unguarded in the most important particularof service; that Sherry, when he hasdone so much, should permit himself to befoiled of a last result by an idle carelessnessof waiters, who if they do not forget one'sorders outright, execute them with all imaginablesloth. They attend on guests as thoughthe latter were pensioners, and are listless ineverything save a collection of the gratuity,personal to themselves, which their avariceand a public's weakness have educated themto expect.
