PREFACE.

The compiler of this little compendium ofTelegraph History places it in the hands ofthe public in the hope that it may be receivedwith favor.

The historical data is taken from leading standardauthorities.

The biographical sketches of eminent scientistsand inventors will enable the reader to form his ownconclusions as to the merits of each.

The few reminiscent incidents in the Canadiansection will lend a spice of variety to the narrative.
