PREFACE.

In the following pages I haveendeavoured to point out someimportant things with respect tofemale education. It is true, many treatises have been alreadywritten; yet it occurred to me,that much still remained to besaid. I shall not swell thesesheets by writing apologies for myattempt. I am afraid, indeed, thereflections will, by some, be thoughttoo grave; but I could not makethem less so without writing affectedly;ivyet, though they may beinsipid to the gay, others may notthink them so; and if they shouldprove useful to one fellow-creature,and beguile any hours, whichsorrow has made heavy, I shallthink I have not been employedin vain.
