This book is a continuation of thoseletters to the Morning Post newspaper on theSouth African war, which have been latelypublished under the title 'London toLadysmith via Pretoria.' Although the lettershad been read to some extent in their serialform, their reproduction in a book has beenindulgently regarded by the public; and Iam encouraged to repeat the experiment.
The principal event with which thesecond series deals is the march ofLieutenant-General Ian Hamilton's column onthe flank of Lord Roberts's main armyfrom Bloemfontein to Pretoria.
