It is difficult to write an introductory in words to adequately dojustice to the gallant deeds performed by our Canadians since theoutbreak of the war in France and Belgium.
Canada's Army has grown beyond all the expectations of the world, andglorious pages will be written, in future history, of the self-sacrificeof those true sons, many of whom have laid down their lives for thehighest traditions of the British Empire.
No finer inspiration is needed for the future than the words of CorporalJoseph Kaeble, V.C., a French-Canadian, when mortally wounded inrepelling a German attack—"Keep it up, boys! Don't let them getthrough. We must stop them!"
To the Canadian V.Cs. of the Great War, and the many others deserving, this little volume is respectfully dedicated.
