These selections have come of occasions. Theywere not meant for the public eye. Thethought of a possible book had given them greaterunity, and the vision of a possible critic had probablymodified their form. The mother-love forchildren called for them and they came; there is aconspiracy of mother-loves and the fugitive poemsbecame a book.
The accompanying illustrations are shadows ofreal faces and may be readily duplicated in anylimited circle.
"Nestlings" may serve as an album for someinnocent faces, and perpetuate some possibly helpfulsentiment.
