The following sketches of a journey inNorway, Sweden, and Denmark are given to thepublic in the hope that their perusal will furnishinformation concerning the people, and attractions,of countries which are being visited byAmericans more and more each succeeding year.While they may impart some useful knowledgeto intending travellers over the same ground, itis hoped as well that they will furnish entertainmentto those who travel only through books.
The memories of the days passed in theNorth are so sunny and delightful, that I wishothers to enjoy them with me; and if the readerreceives a clear impression of the novel experiencesand thorough pleasure attending a journeythrough Norseland, and partakes, if only in alimited degree, of my enthusiasm over thecharacter of the people and the imposing grandeursof nature, the object of this book will beaccomplished.
