The art of cutting Cameos in shell is of so veryrecent birth, compared with that of working inprecious stones, that a claim to consideration insetting forth the method and practice may justlybe preferred. Yet my little treatise, which isbased upon practical experience, has been found,even in more limited form, a sufficient guide forthe practice of the art, by a large number ofamateurs in England, Wales, and Switzerland, toproduce good work; these were all of them skilledin the use of the brush, the pencil, or the chisel.To all similarly proficient in any department ofart, Cameo-cutting will be found a pleasant andinteresting employment.
