There are some characters quoted in the text that cannot be reproducedin the text version of the book.
The sign ſ represents the ancient long s; thesign [ct] represents the ct ligature and the sign [ffi] represents theffi ligature.
A number of words in this book have both hyphenated and non-hyphenatedvariants. For the words with both variants present the one more usedhas been kept.
Not all the font families used for the different articles includedin the book were availabe for the HTML version. The font familiesthat could be used for the transcription are Times New Roman, GillSans, Garamond, Bodoni MT (instead of Bodoni Book), Baskerville,Centaur, Perpetua and Bell. Most of the currently available browsersare compatible with those fonts. However, it is not certain that thecurrently available hand-held devices would be able to reproduce thetext with those fonts.
Punctuation and other printing errors have been corrected.Nevertheless, there are some portions where the author quotes textwritten in ancient style in which the punctuation rules applicable nowadayswere not followed. Those have been left unchanged.
